      "description": "<p>The request concerns the turmeric extract of the rhizome of Curcuma\n  longa L, containing up to 95% of curcuminoids (also referred to as\n  curcumins). The main constituents are curcumin and, to a lesser\n  extent, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin, in the proportion\n  naturally occurring in C. longa. </p>\n<p>A history of consumption in the EU has been demonstrated for such an\n  extract in food supplements. Any process that enhance the solubility\n  or bioavailability might however be subject to the novel food regulation.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>The use of this extract in foods other than food supplements is\n  considered novel food, according to the conclusion reached by the\n  Swedish competent authorities (Swedish Food Agency) in response to a\n  request submitted pursuant to the requirements of Commission\n  Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/456\n  (https://ec.europa.eu/food/safety/novel_food/consultation-process_en)\n  on the procedural steps of the consultation process for determination\n  of novel food status.</p>",

Therefore, its use in food supplements is not considered to be novel and is not subject to the pre-market authorisation in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2015/2283.</p><p>Any other food uses of this product, other than as, or in, food supplements, <span>might be</span> considered to be novel and consequently might need to be authorised pursuant to the requirements of the Novel Food Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 before they can be placed as food on the EU market.</p><p ><span><strong>In addition, other legislation may restrict the placing on the market of this product as a food in the EU or in some Member States.
