      "description": "<p>The entry concerns<strong> koji chestnuts (</strong> <i>\n    <strong>Castanea sativa)</strong> </i>\n  <strong>obtained by fermentation with the fungus Aspergillus oryzae.</strong>\n</p>\n<p>The request was submitted to the Spanish authorities under Article 4\n  of Regulation(EU) 2015/2283. It was concluded that the chestnuts\n    (<i>Castanea sativa</i>) and the fungus <i>Aspergillus oryzae</i>\n  have a history of consumption in the European Union before 15 May 1997\n  and in the resulting fermentation product, there are no significant\n  changes in the composition or structure of the food affecting its\n  nutritional value, metabolism or level of undesirable substances.\n  Therefore, chestnuts (<i>Castanea sativa</i>) fermented with fungus\n    <i>Aspergillus oryzae</i> is <strong>not considered a novel food.</strong>\n</p>\n<p>The outcome is also published on the following Commission's link: https://food.ec.europa.eu/food-safety/novel-food/consultation-process-novel-food-status_en</p>",
